About the Author & Illustrator

Kelli Nielsen grew up thinking she’d be the mother of girls, and saved her every doll and dollhouse with this vision in mind. Today, she realizes it was her destiny to raise boys, with their energetic thirst for the physical world around them. Thanks to her two sons’ adventurous spirts, Kelli knows more about bugs, frogs, dinosaurs, trains, trucks, tractors and cars than she ever thought possible, and has loved every minute of it.

The boys, who inspired this book, Alec and Austin, live with their mom Kelli and their dad Henrik - whom Kelli met and fell madly in love with many moons ago when they were both fashion models living in Europe. Kelli is happy that those days of not-so- glamorous travel and photographers’ bright lights are behind her; rock and stick collections lined up next to a treasured shark’s jaw and the soccer trophy’s are where the fun’s at now!

This book grew out of Kelli’s desire to recognize and honor the mother-son relationship, and to share the joy of that unwavering bond with other families.

Artist Kelly Benham often draws on silly moments in her own life to create her charming, playful illustrations. She’s found that inspiration is never far away. With two young daughters Megan and Lauren, five cats, a golden retriever and 55 cows, her life is NEVER dull!

Kelly’s passion for graphic design flourished with a degree in that field from Washington State University. She volunteers her artistic skills to many children’s groups in her area and enjoys those often hilarious interactions with youth.

This is her first children’s book and even before if was published, she was hard at work on the second book because... she laughs, there are plenty of inspiring silly moments surrounding her every day.
